Augustin Barrios (1885-1944)


Augustin was born May 5, 1885 in Paraguay, South America. He was a classical guitartist, composer/teacher/genius. He spoke three languages, wrote poetry and was a excellent sketch artist and calligrapher. His writings had one of a kind elements of romantic and elaborate lyrics combined with his own sound. He usually performed in complete native Indian dress, and taught at the National Consercatorie in San Salvador. He is known around the music world, today, as a great genius and an important composer. La Catedral (1921) is said to be Barrios most famous work. He was one of the greatest performers/ composers for the guitar and of his time.
